Prof. Christine Lang Biobased Future Foundation

Building materials made from mushrooms or microbial enzymes, medical products using microbial spider silk fibres, car tyres made from natural rubber, textiles based on poly-lactic acid fibres – biobased products and biotechnological research and the development of products and processes offer enormous potential for a sustainable future and economic growth.

We must proactively address the global challenges of climate change, the crises of biodiversity and food security. We cannot stand idly by as they evolve and their impacts on the well-being of humans and planet worsen.

Research and development for a biobased economy

The Biobased Future Foundation aims to promote young and innovative ideas and support new ways of thinking, new products and processes. It will primarily support scientists in the fields of microbiology, genetics and biotechnology. There will be an emphasis on interdisciplinary research and communication. Various funding opportunities and programmes are available.

Our vision is to use new ideas to establish viable concepts, products, and services to make our society, economy, and the environment fit for the future. We want to showcase ways and means which, especially with new biology-based strategies, to help us create a sustainable future in harmony with nature.
